About Dental Crowns
Crowns are very strong, durable covers that fit snugly over the entire tooth to hide cosmetic issues like broken teeth, deep discoloration, or large, dark fillings, while also providing strength to the tooth structure. They're often used on teeth that have had root canals to cover up the discoloration that usually follows a root canal and to help provide additional strength to the tooth, which may have been weakened by the removal of the interior pulp. They're also used in bridge procedures to provide strength and protection to the teeth used to support a bridge. During the consultation, general and cosmetic dentist, Dr. Victoria Veytsman, will discuss the patient’s crown options and develop a treatment plan based on their needs. As part of Dr. Veytsman's commitment to patient safety, Cosmetic Dental Studios in Manhattan, New York is a metal and mercury free practice.

"I've been going to Dr. Veytsman for years and I'm very happy with the care I receive. Because she keeps an eye on potential issues and addresses them timely, I'm never caught off guard or in need of any emergency work. She's very knowledgeable, professional, and warm. The staff who assist Dr. Veytsman are wonderful as well. Highly recommend!"- VK / Office Visit / May 23, 2017
"Great all around experience. Highly recommend. I had both a cleaning and several crowns done because I had really big silver fillings that were breaking down. Super gentle and pleasant."- Anonymous / RateMDs / Jan 29, 2017
"I am very apprehensive when it comes to dentist appointments but my experience with Dr. Veytsman and her assistant made my visit truly pleasant. My friend recommended her to me, as did a friend to her, and now I too recommend Dr. Veytsman. I think the most important aspect of Dr. Veytsman's care is that you are catered to as an individual and not as a dollar sign. This is a person that loves her job and the people she work with, maintaining that human touch that is so rare nowadays."- KK / Office Visit / Aug 17, 2018
"ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I usually dread the dentist, but have been wanting to get my done for a very long time. I've been to a couple different dentists within the city but was never overly impressed by any of them. From the moment I walked in the door I felt like I was being treated like royalty. Dr. V's assistant is absolutely amazing. She makes you feel so comfortable and taken care of. Dr. V isn't the kind of dentist that comes in, does what she needs to do and disappears; she really takes her time to explain everything and you can tell she is genuinely a nice/caring person; not to mention she is incredibly thorough, which everyone wants in a dentist. Her assistant made sure I knew she was next to me during the whole procedure, they played music, offered a blanket, the whole nine yards of royal treatment. Not to mention, my teeth look absolutely amazing and I can't stop showing them off. I can tell you that after this experience, I'm never going to another dentist in NYC again except for Dr. V. I'm actually excited to go back. If you have a dentist in NYC other than Dr. V I strongly suggest you try her, you will never go to anyone else again. She really is THAT impressive; take it from someone who has worked in doctor's offices."- MT / Office Visit / Sep 01, 2018
What to Expect
A dental crown usually takes 2 appointments to complete. During the first appointment, Dr. Veytsman will prepare the tooth for the crown, take impressions of the tooth for the permanent crown, and place a temporary crown over the tooth to protect it. The impressions are sent to a dental laboratory where a customized crown(s) will be created for the patient. Once the crowns arrive back at the Cosmetic Dental Studios, the patient can schedule an appointment to have their permanent crown(s) fitted and set by Dr. Veytsman.
Patients do not usually have any pain after a crown is placed, but some patients experience discomfort or tooth sensitivity. Depending on the material, crowns can last from 7 – 40 years. Patients can extend the life of their crown by practicing good oral hygiene and visiting Cosmetic Dental Studios for regular exams and cleanings. If oral health is neglected, the tooth under the crown may develop a cavity or infection that will require more extensive treatment, like a root canal.
The total cost of a dental crown will depend on the materials used, as well as the amount of teeth treated, their condition, size, and location. Dr. Veytsman will go over estimated costs and financing options during the patient’s consultation and the front office can check with the patient’s insurance to determine if any of their costs are covered.
