Dental Crowns in Manhattan, NY

what ARE Dental Crowns?

Crowns are very strong, durable covers that fit snugly over the entire tooth to hide cosmetic issues like broken teeth, deep discoloration, or large, dark fillings, while also providing strength to the tooth structure. They're often used on teeth that have had root canals to cover up the discoloration that usually follows a root canal and to help provide additional strength to the tooth, which may have been weakened by the removal of the interior pulp. They're also used in bridge procedures to provide strength and protection to the teeth used to support a bridge. During the consultation, general and cosmetic dentist, Dr. Victoria Veytsman, will discuss the patient’s crown options and develop a treatment plan based on their needs. As part of Dr. Veytsman's commitment to patient safety, Cosmetic Dental Studios in Manhattan, New York is a metal and mercury free practice.

During the first appointment, Dr. Veytsman will prepare the tooth for the crown, take impressions of the tooth for the permanent crown, and place a temporary crown over the tooth to protect it. The impressions are sent to a dental laboratory where a customized crown(s) will be created for the patient. Once the crowns arrive back at the Cosmetic Dental Studios, the patient can schedule an appointment to have their permanent crown(s) fitted and set by Dr. Veytsman.

What began as a nightmare, ended in a dream come true thanks to Dr. V. and her incredible staff. After months of stress I finally found a dentist that could not only deliver and meet my expectations, but one that was sweet, patient, meticulous, compassionate, smart, and let's not forget to mention strikingly beautiful. I made the decision to have my eleven year old crowns and veneers on my four front teeth replaced. I met with another cosmetic dentist to begin the process, which became a very stressful and disappointing experience to say the least. I was approaching The middle of August and the lab had sent the veneers back a total of five times because they were too bulky, thick, the wrong shade, and shape was just horrifying, and I didn't look anything like myself. I was beginning to get depressed over it. I started to lose hope that I would ever have a smile that I truly loved again. I am a teacher so I had made the decision to have them replaced over the summer so that they would be finished before I returned to work in September. That's when I decided it was time to find another dentist. I went through at least a dozen cosmetic dentists in the NYC area, calling each one in a full blown panic, explaining my predicament. I had temporaries on for a few months and was getting nervous that there would be some underlying damage to my natural teeth. It was a disheartening experience. Each phone call only resulted in me being told that there was a month or more wait by a receptionist that could have been a robot. Nobody gave a damn. I was just a number. I felt defeated. Then, I called Dr. V's office and I thought, this is just too good to be true. It wasn't. I spoke to Dr. V's right hand woman, Jessica. She listened to my sob story and I could not believe how incredibly understanding, compassionate, and kind she was. Jessica went out of her way to schedule me several appointments all within a two week period. She didn't have to, but she went out of her way to help me because she's just that kind of woman. She treated me as if I was an old friend or family member. I started to feel hopeful for the first time in months. From the moment I met Dr. V., I was taken aback by her cool personality and calm nature. She listened tentatively to my concerns, and worked diligently, laser focused on giving me the smile that I had been looking for. They were super chill and laid back and even let my husband sit with me while she was working on my teeth. The office was super clean and the staff was so patient and professional. I never felt like a patient. Jessica would text me about appointments, she was always available, and she did her best to work around my crazy schedule. It was so easy. the end result was beyond my expectations. I never thought that it could happen, and it most likely wouldn't have, if it had not been for Dr. V. and her staff. If you are looking for the best cosmetic dentist out there, don't bother wasting your time calling around like I did. This is the place you want to go. Dr. V. is hands down the best cosmetic dentist out there, but just as importantly, she is a good person who cares about her patients. I am truly grateful to Jessica, Dr. V. and the entire staff.

Dr. Veytsman and her team were fantastic through the entire process of getting implants. They look fantastic! They took their time in aiming to bring perfection and did not mind if that meant additional appointments. My temporary implants even broke (which is normal) and Dr. V's team went to quickly to work to bringing back a happy smile on my face. I easily recommend Dr. V to all my friends.

What Should I expect After Dental Crowns?

Patients do not usually have any pain after a crown is placed, but some patients experience discomfort or tooth sensitivity. Depending on the material, crowns can last from 7 – 40 years. Patients can extend the life of their crown by practicing good oral hygiene and visiting Cosmetic Dental Studios for regular exams and cleanings. If oral health is neglected, the tooth under the crown may develop a cavity or infection that will require more extensive treatment, like a root canal.

What Are the Anticipated Costs of Dental Crowns?

The total cost of a dental crown will depend on the materials used, as well as the amount of teeth treated, their condition, size, and location. Dr. Veytsman will go over estimated costs and financing options during the patient’s consultation and the front office can check with the patient’s insurance to determine if any of their costs are covered.

Protect and Strengthen

If you are concerned about the condition of your teeth, schedule a consultation at Cosmetic Dental Studios to learn more about how crowns can help you. Everyone deserves a beautiful, healthy smile, so come in soon to find out how you can improve yours.

When does a tooth typically need a dental crown?

Dental crowns both protect and preserve a tooth that has been weakened or worn down and provide a natural-looking aesthetic improvement. Dental crowns are also used as part of a dental bridge to anchor it in the mouth. Typically, Dr. Veytsman may recommend a dental crown for teeth that are:

  • Decayed
  • Cracked
  • Worn down
  • Chipped
  • Discolored
  • Misshapen
Will my dental crown look natural or fake?

Dr. Veytsman takes special care when creating a dental crown to make sure the shade, shape, and color of the crown match the natural teeth in your smile — so that it blends in and nobody will know you have a dental crown but you. These crowns will look as natural as possible due to Dr. Veytsman's expertise.

Is getting a dental crown painful?

While there is some tooth preparation necessary to place a dental crown, Dr. Veytsman will use a local anesthetic to numb to the treatment area to keep you comfortable during the procedure. After a crown is placed, some patients may have some mild tooth sensitivity as the tooth adjusts to the new crown, but this is easily managed and typically goes away quickly.

How long does a typical dental crown usually last?

With good oral hygiene and regular dental visits, most patients can expect their crown to last up to 10 years or longer. You can extend the life of your crowns by maintaining an oral hygiene regimen approved by Dr. Veytsman, as well as avoiding certain foods, like popcorn and sticky candies, that can wear the crowns down more quickly.

How many appointments are needed to get a dental crown?

Most dental crowns are placed in two appointments — one to prepare the tooth and another to place the permanent crown. Between the two appointments, patients wear a temporary crown. If you have any questions about the installation process, please contact our Manhattan, NY office today.

Can dental crowns be replaced if damaged or worn?

Yes, dental crowns can be replaced if they become damaged or worn or if there are changes in oral health or aesthetics over time. Our dental team at Cosmetic Dental Studios can evaluate the condition of the crown and recommend replacement if necessary to ensure optimal function and appearance.
