At Cosmetic Dental Studios, Dr. Victoria Veytsman uses porcelain veneers to help patients in New York City, NY improve how their smiles look. These thin porcelain shells adhere directly to the front of the teeth. As a cosmetic dentist, she uses veneers to address different dental issues, including crooked, cracked, broken, or chipped teeth, stains, or gaps. Porcelain veneers in New York can also be used to make minor improvements to create a better-looking smile. They are custom-made for each patient to match their natural teeth. This cosmetic dentistry procedure can change the color, length, size, and shape of the teeth.

Who is a candidate for porcelain veneers?

During a dental exam at her Midtown Manhattan office, Dr. V. assesses a patient’s current oral health. Ideal candidates for veneers are those without signs of tooth decay or gum disease, and who do not suffer from teeth clenching or grinding. The best candidate for porcelain veneers will have sufficient enamel. During a consultation, she listens to a patient’s goals for their smile and decides if porcelain veneers are the best option for their needs.

What do veneers do to your teeth?

There are many reasons why New Yorkers choose veneers, including:

  • Fix minor aesthetic concerns: Some patients use veneers to repair chips, cracks, or breaks and crooked or gapped teeth. Porcelain veneers repair a smile almost instantly. However, they do not change the position of the teeth, just how they look.

  • Restore enamel: For patients with enamel abrasion or erosion issues, veneers offer more durability.

  • Whiten the teeth: While veneers aren’t entirely stain-resistant, they do whiten the teeth.

How veneers work

Getting porcelain veneers usually takes two separate visits to our Midtown Manhattan dental office. During your first visit, Dr. V. prepares your teeth by shaving off some of your existing enamel. This will help your veneers sit smoothly and adhere better. A custom set of veneers addresses the concerns you have with how your smile looks. Impressions of both the upper and lower teeth are sent to a dental laboratory. Temporary veneers are placed on your teeth until your final restoration is ready. Once your veneers arrive at our Midtown Manhattan office, you will return to have them both fitted and placed. Adjustments may be needed to get the best fit.

For patients with weakened enamel, minimal-prep veneers can be placed with little to no preparation of the teeth. They are made in a dental lab and are bonded directly over your existing teeth.

How long do veneers last?

With proper oral hygiene and regular dental exams, and routine dental cleanings, porcelain veneers can last up to 20 years.

Will my insurance company cover veneers?

Typically, insurance companies do not cover veneers. This is because they consider them an elective procedure and not medically necessary. We will work with you to determine if your insurance coverage will cover any part of the costs associated with veneers.
